Meet the Snowmen of the World at Seoul Land “Christmas Snow Factory”

Seoul Land opened their ‘Christmas Snow Factory’ on November 17 at the beautifully constructed Santa Claus Village. More than 30 magically sculpted snowmen, put together from participants from 10 different countries, are on display.
As an added bonus, a 20-meter “Magic Tunnel”, located near the front entrance, takes visitors to a place where numerous performances can be seen. A 3-meter tall snow crystal located at the east entrance creates a magical illusion of a snow-covered village. Visitors will also get swept away with Seoul Land’s “Fantastic Christmas Musical”, falling in tune with Anderson’s fairy tales, and the “Las Vegas Mega Magic Show”, starring a magician from Las Vegas accompanied by beautifully dressed assistants in Santa costumes. Seoul Land innovatively presents a joyful Christmas for all visitors one month before Christmas.

Leaflets released to help foreign women married to Koreans

The nation’s Ministry of Health and Welfare has been working to help foreign women married to Korean men in line with the dramatic increase in international marriages in recent years, particularly Korean men and women from Southeast Asia.

On Dec. 3, the ministry started distributing leaflets to provide useful tips for everyday life as well as various information about immigration, legal rights and child rearing in Korea.

The guides are published in seven languages, including English, Chinese, Vietnamese and Korean, and have been distributed through the Immigration Office and organizations that deal with female immigrants.

The guides include information about services provided to immigrants, the process of acquiring Korean nationality, local culture and traditions, education, medical services, women’s rights, vocational training, pregnancy and birth.

The number of Koreans marrying foreigners is growing, with 15,234 in 2001, 15,913 in 2002, 25,658 in 2003, 35,447 in 2004, 43,121 in 2005 and 39,690 last year, according to the National Statistics Office.

In a given year, 11 to 14 percent of all Korean marriages involve foreign spouses.

International marriage has grown especially in rural areas, and more than four out of 10 rural men married foreign women in 2006.

(리뷰스타 최인갑 기자)최근 나만의 독특한 개성을 살린 '튜닝' 열풍이 전 세계인들에게 큰 관심사로 자리 잡고 있는 가운데 세상에서 가장 긴 자동차의 기록은 아직 깨지지 않고 있다.

세계 기네스북 협회에서 공개한 세상에서 가장 긴 자동차로 인정받은 자동차는 미국 캘리포니아주 버뱅크에 거주하는 제이 올버그의 개조 리무진 자동차로 총 길이 30.5 미터에 달한다.

이 자동차는 무려 24개의 바퀴가 전체 30.5 미터에 걸쳐 고르게 장착 되어 있다. 아직까지 많은 분야에서 새로운 기록이 갱신되고 있지만 자동차 분야에서는 깨지지 않고 있다는 것이 무척 자랑스럽다는 주인 제이 올버그씨는 미국 전역에서 대단한 인기를 얻고 있어 이 자동차는 주로 각종 이벤트 행사, 영화 및 광고 등에 사용되어 큰 유명세를 얻으며 사랑받고 있다고.

처음 이 책의 제목을 봤을 때 호기심이 유발 되었다. 원래 카리스마라고 하면 냉정하고 차가운 이미지라고 생각 했는데 따뜻한 카리스마라고 하니깐 이해가 잘 가지 않았다. 하지만 이 책을 읽게 되면서 제목의 담긴 진정한 의미를 깨닫게 되었다.

먼저 따뜻한 카리스마를 가진 소프라노 “조수미”씨와 사업가 “박인출”씨를 소개 하였다.
우리 나라 뿐만 아니라 세계에서도 유명한 소프라노 ‘조수미‘는 명성과 재능이 뛰어 나지만 자만하지 않고 겸손하다고 한다. 내 생각에 조수미씨는 뛰어난 재능을 가졌기 때문에 자만을 하는 것이 당연한 일이라는 생각이 들었다. 그러나 공연이 끝나게 되면 같이 함께한 스태프들한테 일일이 편지를 전해주는 이런 면에서 조수미씨의 겸손한 마음뿐만 아니라 따뜻한 카리스마를 보여 준다고 생각한다.마지막 인물은 이 책에서 처음 알게 된 사업가 ‘박인출’씨이다. 이 분은 병원을 카페에 놀러온 것처럼 아늑하고 편안하게 해주도록 병원의 경영 스타일과 이미지를 획기적으로 바꾼 인물이다. 그리고 자신이 생각한 비전이 맞는 일이라고 생각하면 끝까지 열정을 가지고 소신 있게 행동하는 인물이라서 이런 점에서는 본받아야겠다.

두 번째로는 따뜻한 카리스마를 가질 수 있는 방법에 대해 작가가 소개 하였다.먼저 긍정적인 자기 인식부터 시작하라!! 라는 것이 주제였다. 나는 이때까지 살아가면서 긍정적인 생각보다는 부정적인 생각을 많이 하는 사람 중의 한명이었다. 그래서 책에 나온 것처럼 예민한 성격이라 스트레스를 많이 받고 다른 사람들의 비해 몸의 피로도 많이 느끼는 편이었다. 그래도 요즘에는 예전보다는 좀 나아졌지만 더 노력해서 긍정적인 사고를 가는 사람으로 탈바꿈하도록 노력 해야겠다. 그리고 여기서 나온 말 중 “피할 수 없으면 즐겨라”라는 말을 가슴 깊이 새겨서 실천 해야겠다.다음에는 주변인들에게 숨은 내 이미지를 찾아라!! 에서 나온 내용은 사람들은 자기 이미지와 비슷한 사람들끼리 모여 있다고 한다. 그리고 자기가 이미지가 반대인 사람들과 만나면 불안감과 부정적인 생각이 든다고 하는데 신기하게도 작가가 말한 그대로 인 것 같다. 나랑 비슷한 성격의 친구와 있으며 마음속에 있는 이야기까지 다 말할 수 있을 정도로 편안하고 좋은데 나랑 성격이 반대라고 생각하는 친구들과 있으며 왠지 불편하고 가시방석에 앉은 것처럼 불안할 때가 많았다.끝으로 미소는 입을 구부릴 뿐이지만 많은 걸 펴준다!! 에서는 미소를 띤 표정이 중요하다는 내용이었다. 미소를 띤 얼굴은 자신감이 넘쳐 보이며 사람을 편안 하게 해준다는 것이다. 사람들이 내가 무표정 일 때는 화가 나지도 않았는데 화가 난 것처럼 생각한다고 하는데 이 글을 보면서 항상 미소를 짓고 살아가도록 노력해야겠다는 생각이 들었다.

위에서 따뜻한 카리스마를 가진 두 명의 인물과 따뜻한 카리스마를 가지게 되는 방법에 대해서 알게 되면서 많은 깨달음을 얻은 것 같았다. 이 책에 나온 부분 중에 내가 실천해야 하는 부분들은 실천할 수 있도록 노력 해야겠다. 그리고 이제는 머지않아 방학을 맞이하게 되는데 방학 동안에 기회가 생기면 도서관에 가서 빌려서 끝까지 빌려보고 싶다. 나중에 다 읽게 된 후에 조금은 나도 따뜻한 카리스마를 가진 사람 중의 한명이 되었으면 한다.
